Join us for a special morning celebrating two new murals by David Rios Ferreira and Eirini Linardaki. Commissioned by the City of Newark Division of Arts and Cultural Affairs and Boraie Development, these works were created as a dialogue surrounding the City of Newark’s relationship with the Passaic River.

In conjunction with the Newark Arts Festival, guests are invited to tour the newly completed works and hear directly from the artists about their creative processes, the stories woven into their murals, and the ways the river has shaped their understanding of Newark.

David Rios Ferreira
For You Came Along, Out of a Dream I Recall
Dimensions: 10 × 49 feet
Installed on the pool deck, Ferreira’s immersive mural transforms the space into a garden of hummingbirds, native flowers, archival imagery, and stories connected to the Passaic River. Drawing on ecology, migration, memory, and his own Taíno heritage, the work invites reflection on the histories and relationships held within the landscape.

Eirini Linardaki
My City Threads the River
Dimensions: 10 × 284 feet
Stretching along McCarter Highway, Linardaki’s expansive mural unfolds as a landscape experienced in motion. Fabrics collected and photographed in Newark become the “threads” of the city, while bridges and waterways connect the neighborhoods and communities that make up Newark.
