Hunterdon Art Museum is pleased to present the 2026 Members Exhibition, on view September 27, 2026 through January 10, 2027, the annual exhibition brings together the diverse practices and perspectives of artists within the Hunterdon Art Museum community, offering a broad view of contemporary artistic expression and the many ways artists engage with material, process, and image. Spanning photography, sculpture, fiber, glass, printmaking, painting, drawing, and collage, the exhibition reflects the breadth of creative practices represented within the Museum community. Together, the works form a dynamic portrait of artists shaped by experimentation, individual vision, and an ongoing exploration of what art can be.

This year’s edition is curated by Bryant Small, an artist, curator, and educator based in Jersey City, New Jersey. Small serves as Associate Curator at the Morris Museum in Morristown, New Jersey, a Smithsonian Affiliate institution, where his practice centers on contemporary art, inclusive exhibition-making, and creating meaningful connections between artists and audiences. Small brings to the exhibition a curatorial practice grounded in material, process, and narrative. “I’m interested in the ways artists use material, form, and narrative to engage contemporary experiences and broaden conversations around art and culture,” Small explains. His approach to curating is informed by his own experience as an artist and educator, as well as by a commitment to creating exhibitions that encourage audiences to encounter contemporary art through multiple perspectives. Rather than limiting the exhibition to a single medium or aesthetic approach, Small brings together artists whose practices demonstrate the range, experimentation, and individuality of the Museum’s creative community.

In 2024, Small curated New Sculpture/New Jersey, bringing together the work of 11 contemporary New Jersey sculptors in an exhibition that explored the breadth of sculptural practice through multimedia approaches. In 2025, he curated Contemporary Volumes, an exhibition examining the intersections of art, materiality, and the book as both object and idea. Across these projects, Small has developed a curatorial practice attentive to the ways artists use objects, materials, and stories to investigate contemporary life. For this exhibition, that perspective extends to the Hunterdon Art Museum community itself. The result is an exhibition that celebrates both the diversity of individual practices and the connections that emerge when artists and audiences share a common space.

For over seventy years, the Hunterdon Art Museum has been educating, challenging, and inspiring community through the arts. It presents over twelve exhibitions annually of contemporary art, craft, and design in a 19th-century stone mill that is on the National Register of Historic Places. A landmark regional art center since 1953, the museum showcases works by established and emerging contemporary artists and also offers a dynamic schedule of classes and workshops for children, teens, and adults.
