Good Karma

Gallery Bergen
Good Karma highlights art that can spark empathy, build relatability, and emphasize environmental, mental health, and identity advocacy through textile design and needlework.
Mirror Armor, Valerie Huhn.
Good Karma explores how textile design and needlework can advance social good. Stitching as an act of service and a form of meditation dates to the Middle Ages, when anchorites withdrew from society and, living in seclusion in cells, performed "devotional" acts of service like stitching and lacemaking for religious purposes. In the same vein, contemporary fiber artists dedicate painstaking months in the studio to stitching and labor-intensive processes, performing similar helpful deeds to create works of art that aim to ignite social awareness. Good Karma highlights art that can spark empathy, build relatability, and emphasize environmental, mental health, and identity advocacy.
