Find the Fae - Spotlight on the Artist Wendy Froud

Delight in the new temporary exhibition Find the Fae - a Spotlight on the Artist: Wendy Froud, who was named the “mother of Yoda” for her design of the soft sculpture character used in the Star Wars series.

The exhibition features a variety of hand-made beings imagined by American artist Wendy Froud. Froud’s soft sculptures (also called “dolls”) include magical winged or pointy-eared creatures known as banshees, elves, fairies, gnomes, goblins, leprechauns, pixies, sprites and trolls. Collectively they are known as “fae.” Some are glamorous and some look mischievous! Each figure is unique and appears to have its own personality. Made with an internal metal armature, they are layered with wood, polymer, fiber, fabric and hair. The artist painted realistic faces with expressive eyes, that seem to gleam with mystery. These enchanted creations are dressed with great detail, giving them a believable realism, which leaves you smiling.

Froud’s Fae sculptures are displayed on all three floors of the museum, which visitors are tasked with finding, then naming. The art work names will be announced during the Name the Fae! event on December 5th at the museum. The Skylands Museum of Art is located at 15 Route 15, Lafayette, NJ 07848, USA. The exhibit is open from September 4 through December 31, 2026 and is included with museum entrance of $10 per person donation to support the museum.
