Drawing Rooms

Group exhibition of mixed-media works by Ellen Martin, Madison Rocap, and Richie Vicencio.

Ellen Martin creates paintings using 'sgraffito', endlessly scratching into wet paint with a stylus or the point of a protractor. It’s a random, meditative, process-oriented practice. Though my work focuses on nothing, I often reflect on the choices we face in life, the paths they lead us down, and the many incidents, accidents, and actions that make each event possible.

Madison Rocap is an emerging mixed media artist based in South Jersey. Through mark-making, movement, and layering, Madison creates tumultuous and atmospheric works that encapsulate the dichotomy of the human experience. She welcomes viewers to resonate with both the chaos and order within her contemporary abstract compositions.

Richie Vicencio - Unititled Mental Landscape: These Sumi-Ink drawings layer line over line with a fine brush to create skeins of light and dark that suggest land or waterscapes.

The artist says he draws from his experiences of "the serpentine cornfields of Ohio as a child, contemplating the wild "empty" desserts of New Mexico later, as a young adult, and better still, traveling mile upon mile cross-country on beat-up motorcycles through the varied American landscape. I suppose the initial thought was always the vastness before me and my place within it, and how to convey that feeling through lines and marks of ink."

Entangled, Ellen Martin.
